100 Years of Tokyo
Photographs from the Japanese Camera Museum Collection, Tokyo

This
exhibition shows a selection of approximately 150 photographs from
the past 100 years collected by the JCII Photo Salon, Tokyo. They
were taken by the most important Japanese documentary photographers
of the 20th century. For the presentation in Bonn a selection of photographs
were made portraying people in 20th century Tokyo. |

The JCII
(Japanese Camera Industry Institute) was founded by the Japanese
camera industry as a test institution in 1954. The institution has
acquired a comprehensive collection of Japanese documentary photographs
from the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1990 it established its own
museum, including a library and special exhibition space in which
new exhibitions are shown every two weeks.
