The Art of Interpretation
Poetry of the Tang Era und Calligraphy of the Song Era

Symposium

Friday 16 – Saturday 17 January 2004

The chinese poetry of the Tang Era (618-970) and the chinese calligraphy of the Song Era (960-1279) belong to the great, but often still unknown treasures of Chinese intellectual history. Even if translating chinese poetry has been the domain of German sinology for many decades, but many of these texts still have to be interpreted.
This is also true for Chinese calligraphy, which is constantly made accessable in exhibitions and catalogues, but has not yet been interpreted sufficiently.
The linguistic and calligraphic masterpieces should be made understandable to a larger public. All the discussed texts and calligraphic characters will be shown on a screen.

Conception: Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kubin
