Villa Hammerschmidt
Official residence of the German president. Named after its former owner, Commercial Councillor Rudolf Hammerschmidt, a wealthy industrialist, the representative villa has become world famous as the official residence of the presidents of the Federal Republic of Germany.

From an aristocratic residence to the official residence of the German chancellor In the late nineteenth century,
the palace was the social centre of Bonn. Since 1949 the elegant Palais Schaumburg has been used for representative
purposes by each respective chancellor.

Universität
Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, (Rhenish Friedrich-Wilhelm University)
Former residence of the Cologne Elector

The former Electoral residential palace has served since 1818 as the main building of the University of Bonn, which with more than 31,000 students today - including a higher-than-average number of international students - is one of the largest institutes of higher education in Germany. The University of Bonn has produced two Nobel prizewinners over the past two decades and is an internationally acclaimed research university. The palace houses both theological faculties as well as numerous disciplines in the humanities, the university administration, and the university's Ägyptisches Museum (Egyptian Museum). Integrated in the architecture, the baroque "Koblenzer Tor" (Koblenz Gate) still marks the entrance to the centre of Bonn.

Münsterbasilika, (Münster Basilica)
Consecrated to saints Cassius and Florentius A church erected over the graves of martyrs Cassius and Florentius around 400 B.C. - according to legend it was founded by the holy Helena - is the nucleus of today's Münster Basilica, which is a jewel of sacral architecture with its quiet cloister.

Altes Rathaus
Altes Rathaus, (Old Town Hall)
The pearl on the triangular market place Elector Clemens August laid the foundation stone
of this magnificent town hall, which forms the eastern edge of Bonn's spacious market place.
It was erected from 1737-38 to replace a mediaeval building.
