Contents of the collection
The main part of the library's collection is about the history of
exhibitions and exhibition management, a field that is new and unique
among German libraries. Major exhibitions of the past are documented
by both primary sources, mostly the original exhibition catalogues,
and secondary sources. The spectrum of the collection is broad; entries
like World Exhibition, Venice Biennal, Documenta, Degenerate Art,
Armory Show, Pressa and West art convey an impression of the range
of the collection. In addition, the collection offers works on the
history of museums, art collections, general specialized literature
and reference works.
The library also offers a great selection of art literature, particularly
on twentieth century art. Exhibition catalogues of current interest
are received from other art institutes and museums. Reference works,
current art periodicals as well as numerous artists' monographs give
a general idea of modern and contemporary art.
Interested visitors who are looking for further information on current
exhibitions of the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle can make use of the
reference works in the library. The archives of the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle
document all exhibitions by means of varied materials such as photographs,
slides, files and plans.
