Frequently asked questions

Under Accessible you will find information for visitors with limited mobility on accessibility, car parks and wheelchairs for hire.

You can pay in cash, but also by EC card, VISA or Mastercard.

Tickets for events are available in advance in the online shop and on the day of the event at the box office of the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle. The box office is open until 30 minutes after the start of the event. If it becomes necessary to cancel the purchase, tickets can be returned to the box office no later than 5 working days before the day of the event for a refund of the purchase price. A later cancellation/refund is not possible and the ticket will expire.

Please do not take any backpacks or large bags (larger than DIN A 4 (approx. 20 x 30 x 15 cm) as well as cameras, film equipment etc.) into the exhibition rooms. Free lockers are available to the left of the cash desk area. Please also hand in coats and jackets and do not wear them over your arm. We would like to prevent you from jeopardising works of art in the exhibition rooms.

The cloakroom is located behind the ticket and information desk. On regular opening days, the cloakrooms close at 6 pm and on Wednesdays at 9 pm. We charge a fee of EUR 0.50 per item of clothing.

We provide four lockable cloakroom containers for school classes free of charge.

The locker area with 120 small and 40 large free lockers is located on the left in the foyer next to the entrance to the Great Hall.

From the Bundeskunsthalle's point of view, photography is not only permitted but encouraged. In principle, the right to take photographs in the exhibitions is negotiated with each lender. For legal reasons, photography is unfortunately prohibited in some exhibitions, e.g. to protect the rights of artists. Corresponding information can be found on the websites of the respective exhibitions and, where applicable, on signs in the exhibition rooms.

A baby changing room is located in the basement by the toilets.

You can dine in the Restaurant Gustav, which you can reach from the stairwell.

Our museum shop (Buchhandlung König) is located in the foyer of the building on the right-hand side. Here you can purchase our exhibition catalogues as well as books, postcards and high-quality souvenirs.

The central lift in the stairwell to the right of the foyer travels from the basement to the roof garden. The roof garden is closed in bad weather (snow, ice, storms, heavy rain).

Light is harmful to paper and also to colours. Many sensitive works of art may therefore only be displayed for a short time and only in subdued light so that they are preserved for future generations.

If you would like to take small children into the exhibition, please borrow a buggy free of charge from the cloakroom. You will find parking spaces for your pushchair at the cloakroom.

Only assistance dogs are permitted in the exhibition rooms.

If a media guide is offered for an exhibition, you will find it in the Bundeskunsthalle app.

The first aid room is located in the stairwell to the left of the lockers. Please ask the porter or the ticket office staff.

A defibrillator is located in the checkout area on the left - please ask the staff for help.

When there is no exhibition on the roof, the roof garden is freely accessible free of charge via the lift or the outside staircase (with weather restrictions in the event of storms, heavy rain, black ice or snow).

For this reason, most of the labelling in the exhibitions is positioned low so that wheelchair users and children can read it easily.

We are happy to send teachers, adult education centres, travel companies or other multipliers the current exhibition brochures and exhibition posters free of charge. Please contact info (at) bundeskunsthalle.de or call T +49 228 9171–203 and let us know your address, the number of brochures required (in German, English or other languages), the number and format of the posters (A1, A3) and the intended use.
